William Matheny

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, December 31, 2022 for William “Dub” Matheny. William passed away on Sunday, December 25, 2022 at his residence in Como, Texas. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 30, 2022 from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. at Tapp Funeral Home in Sulphur Springs, Texas.

William was born on October 16, 1940, in Coleman, Texas to parents Horace Seymore and Tennesse Estelle (Lane) Matheny.

William was known for his strong work ethic and his love for fishing. He enjoyed building bird houses and coin collecting as hobbies. He will be remembered for his friendly nature, his sense of humor, and always being able to make everyone around him laugh.

William is survived by his daughters; Teresa Moore and husband Christopher of Antlers, Oklahoma, Karen Dalton and husband Phillip of Sulphur Springs, Texas, Dorothy Friddle and husband Jesse of Como, Texas, son; Kevin Matheny of Commerce, Texas, sister, Patricia Jones and husband Dennis of Abilene, Texas, 9 grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones.

William is preceded in death by his son; Daniel “Danny” Matheny, wife; Judy Matheny, both parents; and sisters; Sonora Layman, Melba Pierce, Marie Morgan and Fredonia Barber.
