Wanda Baxter

Graveside services for Wanda S. Baxter, age 83, formerly of Hopkins County, have been set for 3:00PM, Friday, January 20, 2012 at Sulphur Springs City Cemetery with Rev. Bruce Stinson officiating. Mrs. Baxter passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at Baylor in Garland. No formal visitation has been arranged.


Wanda S. Baxter was born on May 5, 1928, in Dallas, the daughter of Melvin and Rubye McCorkle Strasner. She married James William Baxter in Reno, Nevada, on February 13, 1951. He preceded her in death on June 3, 2007. Mrs. Baxter was retired from Carlsbad, New Mexico as the City Treasurer. She was also a Sulphur Springs High School graduate.


Survivors include, daughter, Judy Baxter, and husband, Curtis Cozart, of Wylie; son, William Keith Baxter, and wife, Roberta, of Colorado Springs, CO; sister, Juanita Carmichael, of San Angelo; grandchildren, Eric K. Baxter, and wife, Amanda, Rachel D. Baxter, Martha L. Mitchell, and husband, Joshua; great grandchild, William Henry Baxter. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, twin, Wilma Byers, and Mary Lillian Meddars.
