Richard Lawrence

Memorial services will be planned at a later date for Richard L. "The Can Man" Lawrence, age 78, of Sulphur Springs. Mr. Lawrence passed away Friday, February 24, 2012 at Sunny Springs Nursing Home.


Richard L. Lawrence was born, on June 28, 1933, in Coldspring, New York. He served in the United States Army Air Corps during the Korean War. He was featured in a Sulphur Springs News Telegram article in 2003 detailing his life and experiences. He was employed in various lines of work, but was known to many people as "The Can Man" as he collected cans to supplement his income. He was often seen in Sulphur Springs riding his bicycle and pulling his trailer filled with cans.


Survivors include son, Ricky Lawrence; daughter, Angela Lawrence; friends, Randy and Rachel Self.
