Funeral services for Red Roper, age 85, of Hopkins County, have been scheduled for Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at 12:00pm at Tapp Funeral Home Chapel. With Brother Stephen Leach officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Vernon City Cemetery with Jason Davies, Chris Williams, Josh Holland, John Holland, Dustyn Wright, and Casey Wilder as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Kris Koon, Quinton Ewalt, and Al Stover. A visitation will be held Monday evening December 10, 2012 at Tapp Funeral Home from 6:00PM to 8:00PM.
C. E. "Red" Roper passed away Thursday, December 6, 2012 at the Hopkins County Memorial Hospital. He was born September 16, 1927 in Mt. Vernon to Andy and Hester (Roberts) Roper. He was a good Christian man and served in the Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict. Red was a world class horse and mule trainer and was a lifetime committee member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo where he formed the first mule show there. He went on to hold the record in the mule coon jumping competition.
Survivors include: daughter, Cindy Henry and husband, Tim; son, Chuck Roper; grandsons, Jason Davies and wife, Amber, and Chris Williams; great-grandson, Finn Meath-Davies; sister, Winnie Kunckel; and close, dear friend, Helen Gilbreath.
He was preceded in death by daughters, Patsy and Shirley, brother, C.J. Roper, and sister, Callie Dockeal.
