Funeral services for Pearl Francis "Lucy" Thomas will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, June 24, 2010 at Morning Chapel Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Harold Nash and Bishop Charles Hawkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery with Benard Vaughn, Billy Petty, Michael Kendrick, Pete Hawkins, Mario Thomas, Reggie Thomas and Antonio Nash serving as pallbearers. Lewis Hawkins, Frankie Hawkins, Wilbert Hawkins, Willie Ross, Bob Thomas and David Thomas will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at the wake Wednesday evening, June 23, 2010 at Tapp Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00PM.

Pearl Francis Smith was born September 4, 1922 in Sulphur Springs, Texas, the daughter of Johnny Smith and Allene Mitchell Smith. She married Ira Thomas January 10, 1947 in Hopkins county. Mr. Thomas survives his wife of 63 years. Mrs. Thomas was a homemaker and retired domestic worker. She was a long time member of Morning Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.

Mrs. Thomas passed away Friday, June 18, 2010 at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital at the age of 88.

Surviving family includes her daughter; Elizabeth Shaw and husband Leo of Sulphur Springs; adopted grand-son, Tremayne Jones of Sulphur Springs; sisters Maydell Waites and Ann Simpson both of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren, Jane Mathews of Sulphur Springs, Mona L. Jones of Arlington, Texas, Glinda Ross and husband Willie of Longview, Texas, Tina Lewis and husband Cameron of Rowlett, Texas and James C. Sims, Jr. of Brownwood, Texas. Eighteen great-grandchildren and twenty eight great-great-grandchildren also survive.

Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, A.J. Smith, Johnny Frank Smith and John L. Smith II; sisters, Laura Nelson, Alice Wesley, and Doris Jean Hawkins and one grandson, Ivan Keiyh Sims.
