Funeral services for John Irons, age 93, of Sulphur Springs, have been set for 1:30PM Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at Tapp Funeral Home with Tommy Johnston and Jim Moore officiating. A visitation will be held at Tapp Funeral Home on Monday April 15, 2013 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM. No graveside service is to be conducted.
John Irons was born in Hopkins County the son of Grant and Alma Irons. He married Clyde Williams in Sulphur Springs on January 20, 1940. She preceded him in death. John accepted Christ when he was twelve years old and joined Beckham Baptist Church, later moving his membership to First Baptist Church in Sulphur Springs. He was a dairyman. He was a Veteran of World War II, having served in the Merchant Marines and Army transport. He belonged to the American Legion and was a fifty-year member of the Masons of Sulphur Springs Lodge 221. He served as Worshipful Master and District Deputy Grand Master. He passed away April 11, 2013 at Lake Point Medical Center in Rowlett.
Survivors include niece, Barbara Sturgeon, of Rockwall; nephew, Roger Williams, of Kimberling City, Missouri; and several cousins.
