Obituary – Jane Matthews 

Jane Matthews, age 76 of Saltillo, Texas passed away on January 9, 2025 at Christus Mother Frances – Sulphur Springs.

Jane was born on December 29, 1948 in Nachez, Mississippi to John William and Francine Bertha (McCaskill) Matthews. She was a veteran of the United States Army. Jane worked as a cashier along with being home health aid. She had a very caring and loving heart. Jane enjoyed gambling and playing scratch-offs when she wasn’t working in her garden or yard. She was a woman of the Pentecostal faith. 

She is survived by her daughter, Tina Slaton and husband, Victor; sons, Kevin Black and wife, Barbara, and Bryan Hoitt; stepchildren, Mandy Green and Ruth Ann Malnar; daughter-in-law, Julie Rider; sisters, Nellie Holloman and husband, Robert, Billie Jean Stevens, Laurie Johnson and husband, Henry, and Lila Davis and husband, Joe; brother, William (Bill) Matthews, and longtime friend, Larry Medlin. She was also survived by numerous grandchildren, and nieces and nephews that she loved very much. 

Jane was preceded in death by her parents; brother, John Williams Matthews Jr; stepfather, William Stevens and special friend Chester Robinson. 

Arrangements are under the direction of Tapp Funeral Home. 

The memorial will be at Gladewater club lake at a date to be determined later. She will be buried next to her mother at Locust Grove cemetery to honor the family’s wishes.
