Hurrie Lynn Washington

March 28, 1941 — April 8, 2025

Sulphur Springs

A family-led Memorial Service for Hurrie Lynn Washington will be held at 11:30 A.M. on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at East Caney Baptist Church of Sulphur Springs, Texas.

Hurrie Lynn Washington passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 8, 2025, at the Rockwall Nursing Care Center. Hurrie, who was also known as Lynn, was born to Tom Foster Washington Sr. and Rosie Lee Vaughn Washington on March 28, 1941.

He grew up in the small community of East Caney, where he attended East Caney Elementary School and completed his education at Douglas High School.

Lynn was a member of the East Caney Baptist Church. After graduating, he relocated to Mississippi, where he worked on the railroad. He later returned to East Caney to work alongside his brother, Tom Foster Washington Jr., and his nephews in the fencing business until their retirement.

Although a man of few words who often kept to himself, Lynn enjoyed listening to Motown classics, scrapbooking, learning and collecting information about Sulphur Springs and its history, smoking his pipe, and sharing stories about family history—his true passions.

Lynn was preceded in death by his parents, Tom Foster Washington Sr. and Rosie Lee Vaughn Washington; his sisters Claudel Washington, Ruby Jewel Washington Moseley, Jessie Lee Washington Ivery, and Luevella Washington Harris; and his brothers Durwood Washington, Gerald Washington, and Tom Foster Washington Jr.

He leaves behind two siblings: his sister Carol Kay Washington Bell, and his brother Jimmy Kenneth Washington (Mary) of Garland, Texas. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins who cared deeply for him.
