Funeral services for Dahlia V. Dicken, age 80, of Brashear, are scheduled for 10:00AM Thursday, September 16, 2010 at Tapp Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Hoyt Scogin officiating. Interment will follow in Greenview Cemetery with Bobby Bearden, Terry Yates, Rodney Lennon, Mike Wood, Brian Lennon, David Duncan, and Luke Dennis serving as pallbearers. A visitation will be held on Wednesday evening September 15, 2010 at Tapp Funeral Home from 6:00PM to 8:00PM.

Dahlia V. Wood was born in Miller Grove on August 29, 1930 the daughter of Burl and Blanche Stapleton Wood. She married Dewey Dicken on June 5, 1948 in Miller Grove. He preceded her in death in July 1996 after 48 years of marriage. Ms. Dicken passed away Monday, September 13, 2010 at Sunny Springs Nursing Home. She was a lifelong member of Greenview and later New Sherley Baptist Church.

Mr. and Mrs. Dicken enjoyed a quiet country life and made their living in the dairy business. She assisted her husband at the dairy barn, in the hay meadow or whatever chores had to be done. When she wasn't busy with Dewey at the dairy barn she was an avid gardener of vegetables, and enjoyed taking care of her yard. Mrs. Dicken was a wonderful cook. She was an excellent seamstress, fashioning most of her daughter's clothes for several years. She was always busy in the summer with canning from her garden, and won Best of Show at the Fall Festival for her delicious beets. She also won awards for her quilts and crocheted afghans.

She is survived by her daughter, Shirley McPeak, and husband, Dean, of Brashear; granddaughter, Julie Ann Dennis, and husband, Luke, of Saltillo; grandson, Jason McPeak, of Dallas; great grandson, Shawn Aubrey Dennis of Saltillo; great granddaughters, Josie, Hannah and Samantha McPeak, all of Dallas; sisters, Patsy Yates, of Miller Grove, Barbara Lennon, and husband, Clinton, of Miller Grove; brother, Doyle Wood, and wife, Margaret, of Sulphur Springs; sister-in-law, Irene Bearden, of Commerce; nephews, Bobby Bearden, and wife, Linda, of Commerce, Terry Yates, and wife, Jill, of Mesquite, Rodney Lennon, and wife, Susan, of Miller Grove, Mike Wood, and wife, Kelly, of Sulphur Springs, Brian Lennon, and wife, Debbie, of Miller Grove; numerous great nephews and nieces, David Duncan, and fiancé', Candace, of Emory, Jace and Jillian Wood, of Sulphur Springs, Tara, Tamara, John and Jana Yates of Mesquite, Travis and Jordan Lennon of Miller Grove, Tyler Lennon of Miller Grove, Brian Bearden of Bullard.

She was preceded in death by her parents, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lee and Ida McVay Dicken, brother, William Carroll Wood, brothers-in-law, C. Odell Yates, Eugene "Tooter" Bearden, and niece, Penny Darlene Wood.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. Dicken's name may be made to the Greenview Cemetery.
